Wildfire Safety Live Discussion: Join the Conversation Sept. 30

Southern California Edison is inviting our community to join a live discussion on wildfire safety on September 30, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.. With the growing threat of wildfires in our region, SCE has been working to strengthen the electric system—upgrading more than 6,600 miles of power lines with covered conductor, integrating advanced technology, and planning to move hundreds of miles of lines underground in the coming years. These efforts, along with the continued use of Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) during extreme weather, are part of SCE’s commitment to keeping customers, communities, and team members safe. We encourage all neighbors to attend this important session to learn more and ask questions about how we can work together to reduce wildfire risk. Register here.

Free Home Wildfire Inspections

The City of Malibu’s Fire Safety Liaison program is currently offering free Home Wildfire Inspections. Inspectors will visit your home, point out vulnerabilities, and provide a personalized checklist of improvements to help protect your home from flying embers—the leading cause of structure loss in wildfires.

LA County Fire Department: Ready! Set! Go!

The Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) has issued an important reminder: in our region, wildfires are not a matter of if, but when.

“The safety of residents and communities remains our number one priority,” said County of Los Angeles Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone.

Chief Marrone urges all residents to harden their homes, create defensible space, and develop a personalized Ready! Set! Go! Wildfire Action Plan. This guide, available for download here: Ready! Set! Go! Action Plan, is one of the most effective steps you can take to keep your family safe and give your home the best chance to survive a wildfire.

Follow Evacuation Orders

The LACoFD emphasizes that evacuation orders must be taken seriously. Choosing to stay behind endangers not only yourself but also first responders who may be forced to divert resources for rescue operations.

Community Brigade Program

Launched in 2023 in seven Santa Monica Mountains communities, the Community Brigade Pilot Program has shown real promise in wildfire preparedness. Brigade members undergo over 100 hours of training in fire behavior, communications, and operations to assist fire officials. They also conduct home ignition zone assessments, helping homeowners identify risks before it’s too late.

Get Involved, Stay Informed

Preparedness is a community effort. The LACoFD encourages residents to:

Together, We Can Be Ready

Wildfires will continue to be part of life in Los Angeles County, but with preparation, awareness, and community support, we can reduce risk and protect what matters most.
