MNVCA UPDATE + JULY 4TH CELEBRATION NEWS

A brief update on the Monte Nido Valley Community Association and some exciting news about this year's July 4th celebration.

Hi Neighbor,

We have a brief update on the Monte Nido Valley Community Association and some exciting news about this year's July 4th celebration.

THE MNVCA IS CURRENTLY ON HIATUS

After a challenging period, the MNVCA’s board terms expired at the end of 2025, and the organization is currently inactive. We’re working through what the future of the association will look like, and we’ll share more with the full community once those conversations have progressed. We remain hopeful that the MNVCA will continue in some form, and we’re committed to keeping you updated along the way. If you’d like to be involved in those conversations, please email montenido@montenido.org.

THIS YEAR'S JULY 4TH PARADE & PICNIC

In the meantime, we have some good news: planning for the annual July 4th Parade & Picnic is moving forward, not as an MNVCA event, but as a fully independent, community-run celebration. There is a path to continuing our annual tradition and key details are actively being worked on.

As in years past, this celebration has always been a community effort, made possible by the time, energy, and heart of Monte Nido residents. This year is no different in spirit. But because the MNVCA is on hiatus and no annual dues were collected for 2026, there is no organizational funding to draw from. A GoFundMe has been set up to cover essential costs, including permits, insurance, and road closures. There’s also a broader call for volunteers than usual.

Some essential items have already been confirmed: Fleemans Meadow has been made available, and a live band, lawn games, and a burger stand are lined up. Now your donations and help are needed to get to the finish line.

DONATE and find more info here: http://gofundme.com/f/monte-nido-4th-of-july-2026

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Volunteers are needed to step into a few key roles to make this yearly tradition possible:

  • Parade Manager: to coordinate the parade route and participants

  • Volunteer Coordinator: to organize and communicate with the volunteers

  • Watermelon & Water Station Lead: to oversee refreshment stations at the picnic

If you’d like to take on one of these roles or help in any other way, please reach out to montenidojuly4th@gmail.com.

Thank you for your continued love for our community. More updates on the future of the MNVCA will follow later this summer.

With much gratitude,
Interim MNVCA

Community Meeting with Supervisor Horvath re: Filming in Monte Nido

Monte Nido Community,

As many of you are aware, location filming activities in Monte Nido have created significant concerns within our community. These activities can have substantial impacts on:

  • Fire safety

  • Traffic and road access

  • Wildlife and the natural environment

  • Adjacent property owners’ rights and quality of life

FilmLA is the organization responsible for issuing filming permits in Los Angeles County. Its primary mission is to support and promote the film industry in Los Angeles, as reflected in its public materials and the composition of its board of directors, whose members have deep ties to the entertainment industry. Unfortunately, the organization’s obligations to meaningfully address community impacts resulting from permitted filming activities appear to be quite limited.

For example, required notifications to nearby property owners often arrive — if at all — only shortly before filming begins, long after production arrangements have already been finalized. Attempts to engage with FilmLA regarding community concerns are frequently met with delay and limited responsiveness.

In January, I reached out to the office of Supervisor Lindsay Horvath in an effort to establish a more meaningful dialogue between FilmLA and the Monte Nido community. That effort is now beginning to show progress, and a meeting has been scheduled at Supervisor Horvath’s field office to present our concerns directly.

Date: Friday, May 15
Time: 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Location: County One Stop Building
27001 Agoura Road, Suite 250
Calabasas, CA 91302

Free parking is available on the premises.

If you are interested in participating in the meeting, please let me know so I can keep you informed as plans progress.

There will be a pre-meeting get together at Joshua’s home Tuesday, May 12th at 7:00pm to discuss your concerns ahead of the Friday meeting.

Joshua Saltman
469 Cold Canyon Rd
Monte Nido, CA 91302
818-679-1126

Thank you for your interest and participation.

SCE Undergrounding Project – Community Coordination

 Dear Monte Nido Neighbors,

Several residents have recently received notifications from Southern California Edison (SCE) regarding planned work to convert overhead power lines to underground service. Some of these notices also indicate that new ground-mounted transformers may be placed on private property.

These upgrades appear to be part of SCE’s Wildfire Mitigation Plan, but the notifications have raised questions and concerns among some neighbors about the scope and impact of the project, particularly regarding potential effects on property rights.

Neighbor Phil Buckman has offered to help coordinate a community response for those who would like to seek additional information or address concerns with SCE. If you are interested in participating or staying informed, please contact Phil directly at:

phil@philbuckman.com

Thank you.

🌧️ Monte Nido Art Walk Cancelled Due to Weather

We regret to announce that the 5th Annual Monte Nido Art Walk, originally scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., has been cancelled due to the heavy rains expected in our area over the next few days.

Dear Monte Nido Neighbors,

We regret to announce that the 5th Annual Monte Nido Art Walk, originally scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., has been cancelled due to the heavy rains expected in our area over the next few days.

While we were all eager to celebrate a day of art, community, and creativity, the safety and comfort of our neighbors and visitors must come first. With the forecast calling for significant rainfall, it simply wouldn’t be safe or practical to hold an outdoor event.

We share in everyone’s disappointment — the Art Walk has become a cherished Monte Nido tradition, bringing together artists, families, and friends to showcase the incredible creativity that makes our community so special.

We extend heartfelt thanks to all the artists, volunteers, and organizers who put time and energy into preparing for this year’s event. Your enthusiasm keeps the spirit of the Art Walk alive, even when the weather doesn’t cooperate.

We look forward to next year’s Art Walk, when the sun will (surely!) be shining, and we can once again stroll the canyon, celebrate local art, and enjoy all that makes Monte Nido such a creative and connected community.

Stay safe and dry, Monte Nido — and thank you for understanding.

What a Night at the Monte Nido Square Dance! 🤠

Well, folks — the dust has settled, the hay bales are quiet, and our boots are still tappin’ from one heck of a good time at the Annual Monte Nido Square Dance!

Well, folks — the dust has settled, the hay bales are quiet, and our boots are still tappin’ from one heck of a good time at the Annual Monte Nido Square Dance!

What a joy it was to gather under the stars, catch up with neighbors and friends at the community picnic, and share a night full of laughter, music, and two-steppin’ fun. Square Dance Caller Paul Waters deserves a big round of applause for keeping us all on our toes (literally!) — teaching new steps, reviving old favorites, and making sure even the “two left feet” crowd was out there kicking up their heels.

From allemande left to belly laughs, the night was pure Monte Nido magic. 🌙✨

And of course, none of it would’ve been possible without our amazing volunteers — the folks who set up tables, served food, strung lights, and kept everything running smoother than a freshly greased wagon wheel. Your hard work and community spirit made this beloved tradition shine once again.

Until next year, keep your boots handy and your dancing spirit high — we’ll be ready to swing our partners again before you know it! 💃🕺
